Here in New York City, nothing’s done on a small scale, so it makes sense to bring one of the most important archaeological discoveries of all time to Times Square: the famous Dead Sea Scrolls!
Now on display at Discovery Times Square (DTS) is one of the largest collections of these important artifacts ever shown in North America—as well as the largest collection of biblical artifacts ever exhibited outside of Israel! From the earliest days of the Old Testament period up though the beginning of the modern era, you’ll discover remarkable objects that tell the stories of the tiny tribes and powerful kingdoms and empires that have ruled over a tiny land in the Middle East and how they have shaped the very foundations of western civilization.
During the course of the exhibit, which runs through April 15th, we’ll be bringing you weekly posts here that will illuminate the historical and religious importance of the scrolls, as well as highlight the people and events that gave rise to some of the world’s most influential religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Stay tuned for fascinating stories about the discovery of the scrolls, the high-tech research used to decipher them, and exclusive behind-the-scenes looks at the makings of this incredible exhibition.
And don’t forget to see these iconic objects in person. Imagine looking at a 2,000-year-old biblical text up close or touching actual 3-ton stone from the Holy Land’s Western Wall—all in the heart of the world’s greatest city!
